GPW Frame Horn

Post by DogDoc » Wed Jan 10, 2018 12:05 pm

Does anyone know the specific measurements for a '43 GPW frame horn. Mine has been cut through the hole between the two gussets and I am ready to try to fix it.

Thanks,
Jay

Try looking at the drawings from the Henry Ford collection listed in the top "sticky" thread.

The bumper gusset drawings should help.

Hello Jay,
What is the THF drawing number that you want?
The THF number is available below the drawing.
I will give you a link to get a printable pdf copy.

Hi Jay,
No luck :o : the GPW 5005 Frame assy drawing is the worse scan published by the THF.org.
It was made from a very large drawing, and the resolution does not allow to read the characters and the dimensions.
In fact it's an assy drawing with references to sub-parts codes, not a frame rail part drawing with dimensions.

In this pdf file, you will see the front frame part of that poor scan at the very last page.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/75uwx85kzucy0 ... T.pdf?dl=0
I've enhanced that scan as much as I could but when there are not enough pixels in the original photo, you cannot do any better.

However in the same pdf ,you will likely find the required dimensions that you are looking for.
Other guys have had the same problem, and fortunately they have published their drawings with detailed dimensions.
I've included the links to the related G503 topics:

viewtopic.php?t=187204
Hope it will help.

The L.H. side rail drawing is available on THF, but it's also a very poor scan:

Hi Jay,
Here you will find the gussets drawings.
It will help you to determine the rivet holes distances (2.31'' and 3.0'') if you are missing one of these holes due to the frame cut.

These are measurements made in a CAD software using the original drawing as a scaled background. Very close dimensions.

That last one is amazing! I had seen that picture but felt like that angle from the "Bam Bam" restore pic was too much. Although his work is incredible. I appreciate work to interpret those numbers.

Luckily, you still have both gussets rivets holes, and fortunately the missing part is a straight U-shape piece of steel.
Yes, I was impressed by that guy work in the BAM-BAM project.

On the original drawing the angle is exactly 60°.
Yes, the angle was not correct in the BAM-BAM project drawing  .
