rear tuib fixings

Post by cogenhoe » Mon Dec 11, 2017 3:44 am

Hi I have an early mb, under the tub at the rear there is 2 bolts whose heads are in the transverse top hat channel, these just spin round when try to put a nut on them, so need replacing, but how do you replace when you cant get them out?
also I was browsing in a parts supplier and noticed on the repro tubs they had there that there was no bolts sticking out from this channel, so if you were to use it how do you fit the bolts to hold it to the chassis?

Those bolt heads should be above the rear floor.
Its possible someone has over tightened the nuts and pulled the bolts through the floor and now they are stuck inside the hat channel.
Are there no holes in the rear floor for the bolts to go through?

That makes sense, I'll check if they have just pulled through and can just be replaced, thanks for your reply

You cut them off with an angle grinder and a cut off wheel.
Repro tubs are not drilled for mounting bolts; you fit them to your frame and drill new mounting holes.
