No expert but I have Becker's book next to me and according to him, serial 95501 was built on 02.02.1943

January or February, but since Richmond GPWs have no DAY on the data late, how would Becker know it was on the 2nd? Post pics of the frame number for Tom W. to see and he may be able to give you something close....nailing it down to 2/2/43 is pure guesswork without even knowing what factory produced it!

Also, don’t forget that the DoD is not a “build date”.

Here's the frame number. A built date would be even better. This frame was pretty beat up and heavily modified. I'll post some pics soon. It's been a challenge but I'm super excited and enjoying bring it back to life! This jeep is going to be pieced together with whatever ford parts I can find. But the frame, axles and springs were all assemble together when I got it so in my mind it still has its soul. I do have a '43 ford body so that should help it out. But it'll get a willys motor since I don't have a gpw motor to put in it. Frankenjeep!

Re: GPW 95487 DOD
There has been some GPW motors in your serial number range come up for sale recently so I wouldn’t give up on (at least) finding a GPW motor....but using an MB motor is still a better choice than using a post war block.
I commend you in your goal to properly restore your GPW using an original Ford tub and other original parts! I’m looking forward to following your progress.
I would estimate a late January or very early February 1943 DoD for your GPW (as previously stated) but Tom W. could undoubtedly give you a better estimate to within a few days and can probably identify which assembly plant your GPW came from.

Re: GPW 95487 DOD
Heres what Tom came up with.
Hi cblauw,
From my GPW studies and databases, Your GPW 95487 should have come from the Dallas, Tx. assembly plant. The most likely DoD looks to have been either Jan. 29 or Feb. 1, '43. The original hood number should have been in the very high 20197xxx to very low 20198xxx range. I have a Mike Colgan from Arizona recorded as the owner dated May 2, '17.
This is super cool! It's really nice to know the history of your jeep. Just adds one more thing on why we love jeeps!

Hello everyone. Been a long while since I’ve posted. You know how life is. Anyways the frame is completely rebuilt, motor and trans completely rebuilt. All chassis parts refurbished and ready to install. Now just need to finish the tub and fenders. Then I can start putting back together.

Glad to hear that you’re still wrenching away on your GPW. Did you end up finding a proper GPW motor for it?
