1944 Willys MB Windshield cowl rubber help

Post by Kings » Thu Oct 12, 2017 1:07 pm

Hello all,
I fully restored my '44 MB about 13 yrs ago and during that restoration I fitted a complete Hotchkiss windshield assay as it was easier and cheaper at the time. Now I'm in the middle of restoring the original, and I have a few Qs please.
1. Is the rubber cowl rubber painted or does it remain black rubber ?
2. Where should the cowl rubber finish on each end. I purchased a new hotchkiss one and plan to cut it shorter. I was told to cut it where the tinwork ends, but there is a hole on the arm part about 1 inch further out from the tin work on each side. This hole lines up exactly with the series of holes on the new rubber.
3. My inner screen is a very poor state, I think it's too far gone. Other than the wiper arm holes what is the difference between a Willys MB inner and a Hotchkiss inner.

Thanks all for your help.

Kings...with regard to where to cut the long rubber weatherstrip on the bottom of the windshield, a quick look at the SNL indicates (on page 259) that there are 15 self-tapping sheet-metal screws that hold it to the frame. Once you are outside of those far right/far left screws you should cut the rubber on an angle so that it does not inhibit the fitting of the windshield in the upright position. I made several attempts to fit mine and cut off successively more of the weatherstrip until my original windshield frame fit my original FORD cowl in the correct position.
