Ford Generator

Post by Armyspecial » Mon Aug 07, 2017 11:32 am

Hi all, I'm rebuilding an early Ford generstor, ball bearing type with no oilers.
My question is how are the bearings lubricated in operation?

Thanks
Richsrd

I rebuilt the same early Ford generator.......buy sealed for life prelubricated bearings. They are a realively common size.

Only the VEP gennys used open bearings that required oiling...and therefore the gennys had an oiler on the front and rear to do that. With the advent of the GEG-5002 and the Ford clone of that model, the bearings were SEALED for life. I have replaced them during overhauls because after maybe 75 years they could be suspect and they don't seem to need replacing and still turn as they should.

GEG-5001 = two (2) open bearings
GEG-5002 = two (2) sealed bearings
GEG-5101 = One (1) sealed bearing and one (1) bushing on the comm head that has an oiler for it.
