Considering the rust and dirt I have seen much worse than that saved. Might have to sleeve the cylinders but that is just an added expense as people do that every day.

This looks like a good candidate for lots of PB Blaster penetrating oil. Pull the crank out and drive the pistons down though the bottom end.

Hey Bantam
You will need to clean that block up a bit before you can make a decision.
You need to strip it down completely, everything off including head studs and soak the bare block in an acid / cleaning bath.
You will then be able to see any major problems.
If there are no cracks and such, the rest is quite saveable.
New valve seats, new cylinder liners and a full rebuild will see your WW2 block back on the road.
The WW2 are getting too scares not to save.
A few dollars spent an a proper clean will be worth it.
Heres hoping

Thanks roger this is probably a dumb question but is it possible to drop the pan and then drop the crank with the motor still in the jeep? I dont have a cherry picker to pull the motor out as a whole trying to dismantle it piece by piece.

Short answer. No. The engine has to come out. The crank is going to be very difficult to remove with out pulling the engine and turning upside down.

Looks fine to me from that angle. Don't worry about pits. Yet. Where are you? Never scrap a GPW block; even if you don't use it now, in 3-5 years, it will be gold.

Hey Bantam.
Part of the rebuilding process involves decking the block.
This is when the machinist will skim the block flat and get rid of any small pitting.
All part of a good reliable engine rebuild.
