Re: MB Spring Schackles (U Schackles)
The Recessed Bushings can be found with pressed in fittings, the recessed with threaded fittings come in two different threaded fitting sizes. Study your TM-10 and SNL Parts manual for information on the threaded fitting size.

Re: MB Spring Schackles (U Schackles)
how can you tell the difference between prssed in and threaded by looking?
I imagine the threaded have some flats on them? (like the ones presently on my '45)
the one I have pictured here must be pressed in

Re: MB Spring Schackles (U Schackles)
I've just removed the shackles from my 42 GPW. I'm convinced they are original to the jeep as they have the same paint layers as the rest of the jeep. They are the curved shackle with the recessed headed bushings. There is also some wording forged into the side.
Unfortunately I need a new shackle as I had to cut one in half as the bushing seized solid and the head sheeted off! I also need to find 6 new recessed head bushings as mine literally have no threads left!!

Tim, I believe that the one on the left is post war. I have a few like that that I believe came in 1950's packaging.Niblet wrote:how can you tell the difference between prssed in and threaded by looking?

Re: MB Spring Schackles (U Schackles)
Pressed-in do not need a hex head....those that are threaded in do have a hex head.

Yes, that's it 'Pat PD', does that mean patent pending? Would these be correct for a 42 GPW?
