Floor starter switch GPW vs M715

Post by David Neale » Fri Jun 16, 2017 6:32 pm

Does anyone know if the 24v switch from the M715 will handle the amps from the 6v GPW starter circuit?
Its a Douglas USA made and should fit.

Hi Dave
Not a real expert on the subject, but a 24 v switch should be able to handle 6 v amps quite easily. Put it in and try it . If it gets too hot well we will all know for next time. Sometimes you win , sometimes you lose.
You will not do any damage to anything. If it stays reasonably cool to warm, I would use it and get back on the road.

Well the current draw in a 6v system will be four times that of a 24v one so you may want to rethink that!

The most common floor switch for MV's is configured to fit the MB/GPW hole pattern. M-715, I believe is the same as that found on M-151, and the Delco Starters of the Gasser M-35 and M-211. Yjey are heavier duty for the 24V system and have the correctbolt spacincg which is different than MB/GPW.

I have the M-715 Switch if you need one.

Buy a Massey Ferguson tractor started switch for $17.95. It has the short button shaft and works great. Just replaced mine with this switch last week.
It is yellow cad plated.
