What to do with a GPW

I recently picked up a jeep on trade and when I got it home and examined it closer it doesn't seem to be what I thought. It was supposedly an MB but the grill looked wrong. I am reasonably sure that I have on my hands a Ford GPW. There is no vin plate, but the paperwork includes a California issued vin and ID tag. It has a Ford straight six engine and that mod removed the crossmember so I can't ID from that. Is there any other way to ID it and do any of you have suggestions on what to do with it. I have no interest at all in a project, but I hate to part out a piece of history. Thanks.

The grill looked wrong so you now think it is a GPW? The grills are the same on MB and GPW (unless you had a slat grill MB). I would make a mud bogger out of it; remove the straight 6 and put in a 440 V8.
Look for little Fs on everything. And post pictures.

Should be able to tell the difference on the frame by looking at the inboard frame rails and shock mounts, among other minor differences, including a stamped vin on the upper left near the engine mount. As for the tub, are the toolbox lids flat or ribbed? Is the indent near the toolbox latch round or rectangular? "F" stamps everywhere are a big clue.

Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Look where the radiator is mounted....is the frame cross member round or an inverted "U"? If it is a "U" it is a GPW in all likelihood.

What does the CA Title say it is?

He said the front crossmember has been removed to fit in the straight 6. Look at the frame and tell us if it is boxed in on the inside.
Hell, just put some pictures here and it will be easy to tell.

Thanks for the tips. I believe it is in fact an MB. I've owned several civilian jeeps, but no experience with military. I'll probably find someone local to take it off my hands.
