Hey guys. I got a new motor to rebuild to have as a spare and Want to find out when the DOD was. MB 447172.
MB 342031 6/14/44
GPW 95487 2/1/43

If that's a motor serial number check the casting date (and let me know what you find. It should be 7 - xx and will be from 1944. You can also find the machining / assembly date of the lower flange of the engine by the rear bearing if you remove the oil pan. If it went it a Jeep DOD would be about 5 - 10 days after the machining date.

Found the casting date of 7-18-44.

Is that the machining date on the oil pan surface or the casting date 7-18 as found on the right side of the block?

My mistake. The casting number on the side of the block is 7-14 and the 7-18-44 is stamped on the bottom of the block were the oil pan bolts up to.
