Engine died

Post by REG » Tue Apr 18, 2017 7:46 am

Guys, I had just finished my pre season service, new oil, gearbox and trannie case levels, diffs topped up, new water etc
Took her for a quick spin and 100 yards down the Road all power drained and she stopped.
Checked all leads and couldn't start her.
Popped a new coil on and she started.
Put the old one back on and she runs well.

Anyone any idea what might have caused this ad she has been running really well for months/years.

Sounds like a loose wire that was tightened in the repair process. If it happens again check the wires for continuity/breaks/corrosion.

There is always the easy stuff like a loose ignition wire or coil wire or intermittent condenser function or loose condenser shorting out the dizzy. Check all wires then remove dizzy cap and inspect the condenser screw...and see if the dizzy has somehow gotten a bit LOOSE.

My Dad used to say..."What was the last thing you did to it (car) before the problem occurred? Start with that"

Thanks, Guys.

The last thing was a completed drain of the rad and engine oil.

Not touched the electrics really.

Have replacement condenser and coil in case.

Oh, hold on. Normandy 2014 the connections at the back of the ampere meter were loose! Let's have another look!

Evening Reg,
I was about to start another short post on this topic myself. My jeep has been running sweet for the last few months. Like you went for a run today but she was runnng rough. After an hour of mucking around, notice there was a loose wire to the coils. Tighten and problem fixed. Insert you choice of Australian colourful language here :D
I wish I had noticed that earlier. No parts replaced just time wasted.
