Factory Primer color GPW is

Anyone know what color the primer was for 42 GPW built in Dallas 7-42 thank you for any help Fort

I use red oxide for WW2 jeeps.

I've also seen yellow on early GPW parts but red oxide seems to be the most common and widely used.

Red sometimes yellow on some parts,( brake backing plates etc) sometimes black primer was used (engine attaching pieces)
Zinc Chromate Primer vs. Red Oxide Primer
I tend to think Red Zinc Chromate was used mostly.. both types are excellent....

Just to add some uncertainty to the thread. IMO the priming regimen for a '42 GPW would be:

Frame: Black primer
Body and body parts: Red Oxide
Windshield: Green chromate

The first two match several GPWs I've disassembled, and although I don't know that it is original to my jeep the windshield has the green primer. Paolo has published a color chart that matches the above for pre-ACM GPWs.
