That noise is not normal. Sounds like the bendix is dragging after starting. Notice the engine starts without clashing but after starting, the scraping noise continues after. Remove the starter, and see how it sounds when you have jumper cables hooked up to it. Does it make any sound like before? It probably wont but check anyway. If it sounds smooth, clean up the bendix drive oil free and put it back into the jeep and see if it still makes that noise. The picture you posted shows no oil, but make sure its clean and has nothing that would stop it from being free for the spring to retract the gear back far enough so it does not clash with the flywheel.

Kerosene or diesel fuel is the correct lubricant for the bendix. And the bevel on the Fly Wheel Ring Gear is there for a reason.

Hi Lee,
Are you using the original 6 volts or 12V feeding the 6 volt starter? 12 Volts are real hard on 6 volt starters and ring gears.
