Been discussed here; it is a new made post war, gear drive block, made in China with a variation of a post war Willys block part number. I hear that they are good quality, but they missed the boat entirely by not making a true WW2 (GPW) block as they would sell well. No one needs a post war block as they are still plentiful.

I agree, who advised them to create a postwar block rather than GPW, bizarre.

Would it really matter if you had a new GPW engine or a new post war engine in your jeep, they would both still have made in China stamped on them.

Yes it would matter 1000%; they do not have made in China on them, and any new made block would/should have all the original markings on it; just like all the sheet metal, rubber, etc, does, that we use. And they would be made as chain drive blocks. Would you put CJ radiator hoses on your GPW when new made GPW marked ones are being made? The answer is no.
A new, correctly marked, GPW block would sell like hot cakes; a CJ block, won't sell at all.

I would still choose an org. WW-2 jeep eng. don't care how many times it has been rebuilt, or a post war made in the US. just don't seem right to have an eng. made in China, or a body made in the Philippines, what's next, calling them a "Jeepney".

I choose to have the correct parts on my restorations; and I use only NOS parts on mine when possible, BUT, stocks of NOS parts is mostly dried up with one exception and he never sells anything.
No one can restore a WW2 jeep without using some newly made parts. At least with the condition of the jeeps I find now, they all need something; The days of the mint complete ones are gone.
And of course we want all new parts to be made in the US, but the economics reality of it won't allow that.

I would prefer to not buy it even if it was made to look like a WW2 block.
Don't get me wrong, I have purchased my share of repro parts. But every time I do, I feel like I am cheating.....

Joel is correct, beats walking for sure. If a jeep owner elects to use a repro engine or MD Juan body such as myself, it's their personal choice period! Don't kid yourselves regarding so called original restorations as I witnessed several jeeps with reproduction bodies at the Topeka convention during 6/2015.

Upgraded Jeep engines are no sin, even the US Army does it. The last Gov't rebuilt WWII era ONAN PE95 I bought just for the new engine had the water proof upgrades and a 1950's era gear type long block in place of the original, it even has rotating valves. Should I ever need another engine for my MB, the choice of a near mechanical flawless engine with no cracks, stripped threads or issues or a politically correct WWII dated engine block that is a fragile patched up time bomb with hidden flaws will be a "no brainer". The MB will not know the difference and it will be driven to events with confidence and not be a trailer queen.
Those new blocks are worth consideration. There must be some with some use on them by now.

I read somewhere that they are working on a war time block.

Sure, it would be great to find a good war time block to rebuild, but it's getting harder and it's not going to get better with time. Do I like that scenario? heck no, but the next generation of jeep owners might not have a choice. And this is one vehicle I want to see driven, not in a garage or museum.

I submit that there are zero good Ford blocks left for sale on the planet. They were always more fragile than Willys blocks; hence, they got scrapped at a higher rate. And darn few good WW2 Willys blocks either.
I know, someone will come on just to prove me wrong, but the price will be $4000.

I have a virgin 1st time tear down 43 era bare GPW block that has been Magnafluxed and bored with new guides and cam bearing that I have had stored for 36 years just in case I want to use it. Not even tempted to sell it.
