5 that need identification, kindly asking assistance

Post by Peace » Fri Feb 24, 2017 6:19 am

Hi all,

While visiting a jeep restorer, who focuses on postwar jeeps, I came across these gauges in his parts bin. I am by no means an expert in these, actually more of a total novice.
I am considering buying these. I do not know if they work, nor does the owner. What would be a good offer I could make?

This is what I found:

The 5 gauges nicely presented in a wooden plaque:

The speedo. This is a Motometer, at least I think so. Would this be good for a 44 MB?

Ampere gauge: This looks to be for a dodge, because of the markings?

Hi Stijn
It's Peter again
I look at this gauges
The fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge and temp gauges are correct for 1944 willys jeep
The speedo is correct for 44 dodge and willys jeep and 60 ampere gauges is correct for a 43 dodge.
Nice find and yes it will work but not to sure if the fuel gauge will work because the earth grounding in the case alway get surface rusted and stops the fuel gauges to work it will always stay full if you connect them on the jeep or test the on sender unit will have to pull apart and clean the grounding and ground brass contact to make them work again, temp gauge no the tube has been cut of will need to put new tube and bulb, and I am still looking for a 60 ampere gauges for my 43 dodge protect it is build as a fire truck weapon carrier and use it in UK airport during 1945. I have three dodges 1 is restored, 2 is almost finish, and 3 will start restoring when the 2 is finish
Thanks again Stijn will talk to soon

Cheers Peter

The temperature gauge and possibly the oil pressure gauge can be used as factory fitted alternatives for the GPW as well. Although most I know prefer a matching set of SW gauges for their own reasons.
