Precisely why I suggest one should check the oil pressure gauge for accuracy first & go from there.

There is nothing in this thread from the OP who is from Southern California regarding a cold engine or cold oil.
So that 'COLD engine' being introduced, a couple of posts ago, is just a typical diversion.

The OP's original photo clearly shows the operating temperature registering on 160*F with 30# oil pressure presumably @ idle, as the OP said.

Let's get back on topic!

"Is ~30 lbs at idle is acceptable" YES!
Is there a reason this pressure is higher than normal?
What is that reason?

Was the engine 100% reconditioned with 100% new parts such as Cam Bearings,Camshaft, Oil Pump, reground crank shaft, etc?

parcours, i think you are OK... see mine back on 6-13-205 when I first started mine. When I restored my jeep it had somewhat over 8000 miles on the engine.

Hey guys, here's what I'll do. I kind of have a suspicion that the oil pressure gauge maybe faulty, but it's based on how it acts. Kind of flutters back and forth and not a good constant read all the time. Maybe that's normal (the fluttering) maybe not...

There are times when it solid, does move and stays with that 30 to 40lb range.

I'll take a video of the gauge at idle and at speed. Maybe that will clear some of the questions. I have been thinking of ordering a new gauge (like th e fuel gauge I just replaced) cheap insurance for sure.

I don't know what Ron does with his rebuild. I'll shoot him an email and find out. I would guess that, yes, the parts you mentioned should be new.. $3000 for a rebuild on thus engine I would hope everything you mentioned is new.

Buy the cheapest gauge from autozone $9.99-12.99.
Just plug the cheapie into any oil gallery plug hole & compare the 2 gauge readings.
If they are the same, there is no point in replacing the dash gauge @ huge expense.

There are 3 including the one the pressure gauge & return to oil filter hose come from the one in the middle should be free or you may have to remove the oil gauge line & hook 'master' gauge in there.

I'd suggest you follow artificer's advice and try another gauge....but....I believe the small plugs in the block are IP and the gauge itself is Compression type threads.

Get a gauge with 1/8" Pipe Thread and remove the fitting at lower rear left site just above oil pan. The block is threaded 1/8" Pipe where the brass fitting enters. Don't let all this get to you, your Oil Pressure is just fine.

I'd question why he only has 10 lbs difference between idle and operating
Rpms. There should be more space between those two readings.

Let us know what your test gauge says.

Hi
I have 24 ww2 military vehicles
All my on cold start shows 60 pressure and when hot on 160 F shows 25-30 pressure
And 2 of mine shows 50 pressure on cold start on 170 F shows 25 pressure
And 1 of mine shows 50 pressure cold start and hot 160 F shows 15 pressure
I also adjust the valves on the engine to get more oil pressure on to 60 pressure for cold star and shows 30 pressure when hot

When you start your jeep what pressure is it showing on cold start if it's shows 60 or 50 that's normal flowing fast when cold
When hot on 160 F to 180 F and oil pressure shows 30 or 20 that's normal because the oil is hot and flowing slow when hot. if it shows 15 pressure not good need to adjust valves,

Cheers Peter

Checked the gauge accuracy cold. My dash gauge is off ~ 4psi.

Looks like I'm ok....

Here are some reading at idle.
