Four under timing cover screws.
Yesterday after the engine restoration I noticed one of four timing cover screw not completely tightened.Its thread was damaged.I was looking for in the SNL G-503 which type of screw and saw 3/8"x24NF(fine)x3/4".This one completely untightened was NC(coarse) like all other three.Bought four NF screws,cut them until 3/4" length.Only got two in their place.The other two I could not put in their place.I thought there were risk of damage their threads.I got to re-align the pulley.Probably tomorrow will be the finish of the engine assemble after three months of restoration.Thanks to watch.Regards.

Fine threads do not go in castings. Do not screw them in you will ruin the threads.
Studs will be course on the casting end & fine on the nut ends.

The 3/8" Xx 3/4" SAE Bolts go along the top of the Timing Cover and thru the Timing Plate near the fuel pump, Nuts are used on these bolts.

STUDS have coarse & fine threads.... these screw & seal the coarse thread in the engine block, then they have nuts & washers fitted to hold the timing cover, gaskets & engine plate together.John wrote:Fine threads do not go in castings. Do not screw them in as you will ruin the threads.

You will note that one of those 3/8" NF Bolts is 1" long and that is where CLIP WO-A-1289 (Group 0304) attaches the Fuel Line to tye top of the Front Plate.

The NC bolt thread looks like damaged.

That is a homemade bolt & doesn't belong wherever you are trying to fit related to the timing gear cover.

The (4) bolts on the 'under' are NC thread;however,they are generally considered as oil pan fasteners.In the drawing you can see that a couple of them have to be short-otherwise they'll gouge the timing cover.

The ones under the cover that are shared with the front of the Oil Pan are 5/16"-18 NC.
