leaking rad fluid through head studs
Just finished a rebuild. Having about three studs leaking radiator fluid while the engine is running. I put sealant on each when I installed the studs. Am I missing something or did I put the wrong sealant? I used gasket sealant.

Gasket sealant such as Permatex #3 (Liquid), Permatex #2 (Non hardening) on the lower thread should be effective and durable, it is what the factory did. The studs should be just snugged into the block, not torqued Perhaps an few hours running time will help. Retorque the head upon initial warm up..

I use Permatex White Teflon thread sealing paste. Comes in a bottles with a brush like Permatex Aviation gasket sealer.
Far better than Teflon tape.

Gary,
My rebuild did the same thing. After a few-maybe 8-10- heat/cool cycles and a re-torque they all stopped their weeping.Pretty average for these engines.

Agree with the others. GIve it a while before taking anything apart. It may soon stop on its own.

Re: leaking rad fluid through head studs
Using anything but Permatex #2 on studs or head bolts is a leak waiting to happen. No need for anything else.

Re: leaking rad fluid through head studs
Thanks for the help. I did run it for a total of about two hours and several studs kept leaking. Turns out I have to replace the head anyways. The machine shop missed a crack in it. Fortunately I have another one, just hope it's in good condition.
