How to clean the carburettor

Post by Wocha » Fri Jan 13, 2017 7:00 am

I am in the process of rebuilding the engine of my gpw. All now looks great except the carburettor which is dull and grimy. How can I clean it to match the rest of the engine?

If you are concerned about the outer surface: (edit) after cleaning with a detergent (fuel, stiff brush) to remove hardened stuff (end edit) do a sandblast with baking soda - after the job is finished you can rinse excess soda with water and dry it with a hair dryer thoruoghly. That should do the job.

I used alloy wheel cleaner. It comes in a spray bottle but I sprayed it into a bowl then brushed it on, left it for a minute then brushed it off with water. Came up lovely.
