Where Did They Store Jeep Covers

Post by Jerry Hudgens » Sun Dec 04, 2016 7:35 am

Right now on the History Channel they are showing a program "WWII In High Definition".

They showed President Roosevelt visiting North Africa and he was riding on Jeep that had the frames that hold the canvas cover and the frames were down on the body. The canvas cover could not be seen.

I have seen this a lot of times in movies where the cover frames were positioned down on the body but the canvas cover was not showing.

My question, is where did they put the canvas cover when they had the frames down?

Just curious

I take it you are referring to the canvas top? Storage of the top was under the passenger seat. Ever wonder what those footman loops were for?

In addition, wasn't the storage of the canvas top, canvas windshield cover, headlight covers and mirror cover also under the passenger seat? Straps from footman loop to footman loop kept the rolled canvas "hanging" from the bottom of the seat and slightly off the floor pan so moisture would not touch the vancas. Careful and fight rolling or folding of the canvas is necessary to insure a small enough packet to do so.

I must of taken that photo above 10 years ago... I will have to look and see when?

Here is a link to my friend Ren's site showing how to fold a top. :D
