Transfer handbrake help

Post by Nicholas1066 » Sun Nov 27, 2016 8:20 am

Hi I've been trying to find out what the actuating lever arm looks like for my handbrake; it's the internal type. I cannot see where the arm bolts to the transfer. Hope some would could advise what part/s I required to fit to handbrake cable. Many thanks.

Hi Nick,

I don't really know anything about the late handbrake. But here are a few photo's etc that may help you.

They may give you a few pointers at what to look at/for.

Thanks Dave. I was wondering how I connect to the arm coming out. The lever I have been seeing on my searches has been different to connect to what I have poking out of drum; I cannot even see the hole thread to make the arm actuate.

No Problem,

But Nick, I have just remembered, you have got a T90 gearbox. I guess that the transfer box will be the same as the GPW/MB? but like I said before I know nothing about them.
If the photos don't seem correct, try and post on the CJ board on the forum. They will surely know.

All the best,
Dave

The Lever, (A-17254) pivots on a stud on the rear output bearing cap. The Rear Output Bearing cap is unique to the MB/GPW, CJ-2A. with internal brake. You need to exchange the bearing cap.

Hi Nick,

Here is a photo of the pivot and lever. This was the best photo I could get with the skid plate in place.

Image

My set up looks like the images posted by Jeepfinger. I have not seen one with a tube sticking out the back as in your photo.

I hope this is some help.

Cheers

Thanks, more reading and searching required then. I will be stripping that section soon, once tub off for repair.

Hi Nick,

It looks like the lever (no 21) is very different to the set up you are looking for. I have a GPW marked version that is apparently rare as GPW's were supposedly never fitted with the internal handbrake set up.
This is part of the set up you are looking for. good luck.

And make sure it is the A-17254 made for MB, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, Early CJ-3B or is marked with the GPW number. The other Jeeps have levers that are different.

Ok so what do the GPW People in Know have to say about that arm marked FM-GPW-2653 ? Did late war GPW's have the internal expanding park shoes or not ? Just curious.

Other strange Ford things happened near the end of WWII, Ford was gearing up to manufacture Weasels, no Ford Weasels are out there but Ford tagged Weasel Parts are.

Thanks everyone. I had a closer look at the tranny. Here's a couple of pics! Seems like so many parts interchangeable, going to run her on what's fitted; then try to source the other bits. I have the Delma of time of production parts, or running later improvements.
