Re: Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!
I saw both sheared shafts at the Fall Colors Tour in Colorado, scared the you know what out of me! Both shafts had identical failures.

Re: Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!
Hello again everyone, I just wanted to point out that many online merchants and Ebay sellers don't stock the sector shafts in-house. Orders are simply drop shipped from OMIX-ADA upon receipt. Don't expect any redaction of the listings any time soon.

Re: Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!
Joe Friday describes the contact area as a thrust insert with no weld around it. In your photo, Lew, there is something on the machined surface of that insert, is that a drop of lubricant?
As far as being safe, there is no welding evident and it appears to have the insert which is comforting as it does not appear to have the features of the Omix product.

Ben,
That is just a drop of oil where the adjustment bolt pushes. The surface is smooth there. I believe I have a good one.

My opinion also.
This has to be the first notable red flag concerning aftermarket replacement parts on the MB.

Looking at the pictures I think the problem is that it's made from two seperate pieces, while originals and correct reproductions are forged in one piece.

Re: Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!
I had already posted a reply which appears to have vanished!
Anyway, in my opinion the give away is that the faulty sector appears to be made from sheet steel and the shaft from bar stock. A good repro will be cast, the cast in part numbers and casting lines are a good sign.

Re: Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!
Welding at the end of the shaft is also a dead giveaway. Do not install it. Hopefully there will be feedback on how this is being handled.
This is serious business.
Not sure if this manufacturer is supplying Sector Shafts for other style Jeeps using the Ross Lever and Twin Pin shafts design. M-38A1, M-38, CJ-5 with V-6, and the older style 40's-62' Jeep Trucks and wagon use the same type but with a larger diameter shaft.

Re: Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!
Hello and thanks for the info.
I´m worried now...I´m not sure if mine could be OMIX-Ada. I have been comparing pics and the casting part on mine looks sightly different than the part on th OMIX-Ada one (I think).
OMIX Ada from internet has rounded edges
Mine has sharp edges:
Opinions, please?
Thanks

Re: Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!
Rodrigo, yours appears to be a two-piece shaft. This does not necessarily mean it's bad, but I'd take a really close look at the area where the shaft and the "other piece" join, which is hidden by the bushing in your photo. The failure-prone shafts had a square corner inside the "other piece" where the shaft is necked down to fit inside, whereas the originals, being one-piece forgings, had a radius at the point where the shaft extends from the "other piece".
On a related note, I bought a sector shaft from J C Whitney back in 2000 and I installed it in my Ross box last year. I don't think it is welded like the Omix shafts, but it didn't have an adequate radius in that joint, in my recollection. I may need to open the steering box and check it out, too.

Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?
