Original ROUND MUFFLER pictures

Post by Ian Fawbert » Tue Jun 07, 2016 6:35 pm

Hi all,

Has anyone got an original (used, beat, NOS) round muffler for the early MB and GPW which they can post photos of (even better if it has dimensions!!!)?

I ask as i see several dealers from around the world all selling slightly different versions and it is personally something i have never seen (plenty of original oval ones, but never a guaranteed original round!).

Thanks in advance,
Ian.

I remember seeing a photo on a post here. It was of a Ford plant and showed the side view with a VEP GPW. The muffler was clearly visible. I will see if I can find it again.

Wasn't the early GPW/MB the same as the GP and MA? If so, here is one of the pictures I was talking about. I still can't find the factory picture.

Hello,

Thanks for your time and effort searching for the photo.

It seems that it might be the only way to try and ID which of the repro's is the best by compiling the photos which, like the one you provided clearly show the muffler.

Re the GPW muffler, yes they are round but different- see the NOS and then repro'd one in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=90875&hilit=muffler

I`m still surprised no one knows of an original (used or NOS!). I'll keep bubbling this thread up over time and see what turn up.

Cheers,
Ian.

I use a Allis-Chalmers muffler (used on there Model C) on both of my slatt grills.
They fit perfect and the sound is great even with my hearing aid on.

Hi Ian,

Would the Ford GPW-5230-A muffler drawing be of any help ? The MVPA has the drawing available in either paper ( $10 plus shipping ) or in electronic form ( $5.00 ) . The price is doubled if you are not a MVPA member. Similar rules apply as on Jeepdraw - the drawings are for your personal use , if you are caught sharing you will be cut off ( like not the good type of cut off ) and not be able to get any more drawings.

Hi Tom.
That would be just as good and likely better than photos of an original and measurements!

I have not checked, but I assume I can order this online? I must admit, I haven't checked for a while on what drawings they had so will go check it out.

Personal use only is assured.

Thanks for the lead,
Ian.

Hi Ian,

I am not sure if the muffler drawing is currently listed in the Supply Room or not. If not just make a donation ( $ 5 ) ( $10 if not a member ) to the MVPA Archives in the Supply Room and I will send you the drawing from here.
