I saw a tutorial where someone had used an o-ring in the slip and pivot connection of the oil pick-up tube. This o-ring is not in the SNL. Is it advisable to use an O-ring
in this area?

Not in the SNL, but I always add one to the tube for added insurance against sucking air if the oil level ever uncovers the pickup pivot point during off-road maneuvers. IIRC, it's 9/16" ID, 1/16" thickness, Viton or Buna N construction. The o-ring should be thin enough to allow you to insert the cotter pin without the float binding.
