hood width at cowl at bottom edge, nearest fender

Post by r40ford » Sun Jan 11, 2015 8:07 am

All
Can someone give me the width of the hood at the cowl end measured at the lower edge nearest the fender top. I seem to have a wide gap on either side at the cowl. I have a repo body, I do have the original carcass of my body and the dimension are fairly close. I know having a gap helps promote air flow for better cooling. Curious to see what others have for a gap. Thanks.
Regards

No one will measure a hood for me?
I have 44 13/16" at the bottom rear edge of my hood. Several friends that have seen the jeep recently have remarked about the gap that is evident at rear edge of my hood to cowl at the fender tops. It fits fine at the top of cowl until it curves down toward fenders. I don't remember and have no photos showing clearly the fit of the hood to cowl in this area when purchased and on teardown. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the issue is in the variation that occurs in the repro bodies.

Ed and Chuck,
Thank you. I can handle a 1/16" difference. Mine is also a factory hood but on a repo body. The rear hat channels spot welds where they join near the curve had broken loose. They were re-welded some time ago. The hood has been on several times on this body but the gap was not as evident or didn't appear strange to me at the time It was only after the mentioning by my friends that I grew concerned
I wish to finish this thing for the April Tower Park meet and it still needs a finish coat on the body exterior before all the external hardware is installed. Then it'll get a touch up coat. I was going to try to shoot the paint this week in this warm weather we have right now. Again thanks.

The light is at the end of the tunnel, that first trip is a good feeling.

Yes, the light at times seemed very dim. This jeep was last registered in 1996. It's been an off and on project since then. I retired in 2005 and thought I would get er done. That didn't happen, Honey dos and health kept it stagnant for some years. I've been able to get to Tower Park for 2 1/2 days each meet since 2008 and saying I had a GPW, some are still wondering. The engine fired right up and purrs like it did before, and I'm ready for a test drive when the time comes.
