GPW side handles (early vs late)

Post by Navarre » Tue Nov 25, 2014 12:36 pm

Hello gents

I didn´t notice there were two types of side handles on the GPW: early and late, being the firsts thinner...Image

Please, could you show any pic showing the differences?

And....when they changed?

Thanks in advcance

Look at the pressed ends, you can see single or double wall thickness there.

There isn't much difference....you can see in the photo:

They were for the VEP GPWs....(depending on what that means, I think a First Contract had 'em and either with the Second Contract or even earlier they went to a more robust design.

Basic shape is the same and you really have to LOOK to notice the THIN ones.

The late set I just installed on my tub also have drain holes, while the early do not. Also the F mark is slightly different or less pronounced. I didnt think to take pictures of the early set I just sold, to show all the differences.

Thank you lads,

Watching to Chuck´s pic I note that is really hard to see the difference...Sure my eye is not well trained with this matter yet.

Please, let me show you mine, what´s your opinion? I would say late....

But no drain holes...

I have a few sets of gpw footrests which are also early and late with extra thickness on the later pressed end.
I wonder if they changed over at the same time as the side handles.

My Dallas built Sept. 42 GPW had the early thinner type handles. The F script was different to all the later style handles I have.
