Accelerator foot rest purpose?

Post by Greendot319 » Thu Nov 20, 2014 9:40 am

Sorry to be dense everyone but got to ask as its bugging me but what is the point of the accelerator foot rest? Surely the name should be self explanatory but your foot doesn't go near it except when using the foot starter switch and the accelerator pedal doesn't go near it either?

Thanks
Matt

Just what it says. It helps you keep a steady foot pressure on the accelerator pedal and reduces fatigue.

With the accelerator nearly on the floor and your foot half on it and half on the rest?

Not much on the street, but off road (bumpy!) it does help keep a steady throttle.

Cheers. Ed s :)

Ah, that starting to make more sense, got to refit steering gear and brakes before I can try it out!

It helps you to get just the right foot angle on the starter switch, as it should be pressed straight down. You'll see what a great idea the rest is when you have it installed.

I find that even with the rest where it is, I can easily crank the starter while pumping the accelerator pedal if needed.

I forgot about my foot rest being there until I was driving across a field. It was impossible to keep the throttle steady. But once I put part of my foot on the rest and the other on the gas pedal I could keep the throttle steady. Try it it works great.

Thanks Guys, interesting views, I like the idea of it being useful for steadying your foot on bumpy ground. Seems to make sense. I fitted the pedal spring today too and that made the pedal feel more steady aswell, its interesting the difference the little things make!

And you will never notice it after you get your Jeep on the road.
