The former topic was locked so here pics of 2 NOS 637052 waterpumps I have. You can see how the impeller is installed

The problem on the other thread was that a generalism that "seat the impellor to the end of the shaft". That is probably OK if one is guaranteed that they have an NOS shaft and an NOS impellor and probably an NOS seal. In this country we do not have those to rely on and are at the mercy of the repop parts mfgers.

In reality to avoid "churning" the coolant rather than "pumping" the coolant....it was suggested that the position of the impellor in the cavity in the opening of the block was the key to getting "pumping" rather than "churning" and while back in WWII a simple "seat the impellor flush with the end of the shaft" might has sufficed then....the aftermarket parts business might have made those directions invalid.

The available new aftermarket water pumps have the pulleys and shafts assembled in the same manner as the Jeep water pumps of the 40's and the same goes for the fit of the aftermarket kits that the dealers are using to rebuild the water pumps that you send them. I have been involved with the aftermarket vehicle parts business for over 60 years, a 134 Cu. In. Currently manufactured Jeep water pump impeller installation is the same today as in WWII.
