Data Plate Day Missing

Post by Old Pal » Tue May 13, 2014 6:55 pm

Am I missing something or is the day missing on my DOD?

Any help on the facility where it was manufactured would be great (Tom?)

I think this is indicative of a Richmond plant GPW. Tom W. will confirm soon I'm sure.

This would make sense since the jeep was acquired by the California Forestry in the late 40's or early 50's. I would assume that it would be unlikely that it traveled across the country in such a short time frame and still remain in government hands. I guess you never know the real history of these things unless someone kept really good records or you could identify numbers in old photos.

Was the Richmond plant the only plant that omitted DOD days? What was the reason for this?

Also, it doesn't look like the publications portion of the data plate has been stamped. Is this typical?

Having the publication stamps missing is common but I wouldn't say it was typical.

I don't think so. It did have forestry red. I'm guessing California Department of Forestry.
