Yet another zinger of a Question

Post by 1943Willysgpw » Wed Jan 29, 2014 7:46 am

What size are the letters suppose to be on the front bumper? I looked on jeep draw and must have missed it.

3 inch; you still need the battery and vehicle number. So it would be 3A-18F STAR HQ- 6. (HQ6 was the commander's jeep) These were applied in the field so they can be any size and type of letter, from nice stencils to hand painted by a former sign or house painter who happened to be in the unit. On the bumperettes you stack the information on top of each other.

Which side does the star closest to the HQ or the Left numbers?

If you search the net you can see examples of all these markings. Put it just to the right side of the hole. Which is the center.

Alas, after days of research and pestering you I think I can paint my bumper. I will see about posting a picture on a new knowledge base thread to help others. Thank you very much.

Looks good. I know you are duplicating the original guy who did it and he left out the dashes and the star. You see all formats in old pics too.
