engine numbers

I have a 43 mb with engine #638632 above the oil pan below the dist.
and a serial#mb-230079 behind the oil filter, do they mean anything.

Probably 2-1x

What serial # jeep is engine in? If it's the 215xxx to 219xxx range this engine is probably original to the jeep.

Ken,

try and find the body number...

it should start with 116XXX or 117XXX...

if so, all your numbers would be a match set....

if your jeep is unrestored you may be able to find some hood numbers

I'm still curious about the numbers to the left of 638632...should be: 2 - 1X or 2 2X.
