Holes in dash any ideas?

Post by gelly » Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:35 pm

Hi Guys,

I have a 1943 MB and I am going to be tackling the dash this weekend and filling holes not required.

I am trying to identify these holes hopefully shown in the attached image.

There are 4 holes, they are spaced 2.5 inches apart vertically and 2.25 inches apart horizontally, I don't think it's the normal plate that sometimes is positioned here?

Any info greatly appreciated as normal,

Thanks in advance,

Jason

Not normal; possibly from a rebuild data plate from some depot. Weld them shut.

3-11/16" x 2-7/8" for the Tandem Hitch plate.
Shipping Data Plate is much smaller 2-7/8" x 1-1/2"

Are there any odd features on your jeep?

It is too small for most of the plates that go in that position... the factory installed MZ data plate is about 3-3/4" square or close to that. The small plate above that is a US Navy property tag... most of those are two hole.

There are a few other plates that could have been attached, assuming it was done during or around WW2. But those were larger, so :?:

Does the right side data plate hole pattern match? We had a jeep once that had the M48 mount installed over the right side of the glove box and that is where they moved the right data plate. You do have holes in the back of your glove box that might be from that installation.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the replies, it doesn't match any data plates I have, so looks like the best option is weld them up!

Regards

Jason

If you have all the data plates on your glove box there is no need for any holes in that area unless you plan to install a shipping data plate or the tandam tow bar kit. Best to fill them in.

Jason, with you living in the UK, is this Jeep ex Brit army?
I first thought they were for a postwar "Minisry of Supply" data plate.

But the M of S plate is oblong.
