I have an NOS in the box 6 Volt version by Federal Sign and Signal, it is 6volts DC Model O Serial 1L12 G2. The G2 denotes that is has a painted finish. The Chromed ones have a different suffix which I do not have the information on.

When I got my siren the data plate was toast, so I reprinted it.
It turned out OK in the end.
Below is the original data plate and what I drew up to make the stencil.
Other photos show the completed item. The numbers you asked about are on one of the photos.

Possibly an Auto Electrician can do some tests to see if it's a 6V or 12V siren.

Outwardly, the Model "0" and the VG look similar.

As you're missing a data plate, Ed may have some left

I believe if you briefly touch it to the posts on your 6-volt battery and then on a 12-volt battery you will find out if it is a six or twelve volt siren. If it turns over better on the 12-volt then it is probably a 12-volt siren...

BTW....I would imagine that guys who have 12-volt vehicles will trade you an original 6-volt siren for it....they are not as plentiful it seems.

Greetings all. I have been trying to research the correct Siren to use for my 5/22/1944 GPW (S# 200477). I have seen a lot of mention of the Federal Sign and Signal "O" and "VG" Models. I recently purchased a Federal Electric "V" Model (Looks very similar to the "O" and "VG" models) off of Ebay. I found the following video produced in 2013 by Federal Sign Corp in their annual review. It gives their company history. Interestingly they say that their name changed to Federal Sign and Signal in 1954. If this is the case, then it would appear all of the Data Tags that say "Federal Sign and Signal Corp, Formerly Federal Electric Company" were probably produced in 1954 or later.

Perhaps someone else has more complete information. The Wikipedia write up appears to have quite a few errors in it.

Also, I suspect that "Federal Sign and Signal" Data tags should list "Blue Island, ILL" as the city, not "Chicago, ILL".

Perhaps the Federal Electric Company that previously was located in Blue Island purchased the Federal Sign and Signal Company of Chicago, Il. and changed their name to that company name in 1954.

This one kind of indicates that...

I would go with one with Federal Sign and Signal on it with a Chicago, Ill address and 6V and Model "O" on the tag for a 6 volt jeep during WWII.

Here is my "Federal Electric" data tag. By the way the Federal Signal Corp history video says that in 1944 "Federal Electric" received the Army Navy E award (about the 2 minute mark in the video). It then states that "Federal Electric" changed it's name to "Federal Sign and Signal" in 1954. Blue Island is a community/suburb of Chicago.

Here's a 12v version of the model O Federal Sign and Signal data tag. They obviously could be tagged as either from "Chicago, U.S.A" or "Blue Island, Ill".
