Great thread, I have been looking for info on Huck BOM rivets . I have four GPW frames and all four have serious rust issues and will need to be broke down and re riveted back togetter. This thread helps point me in the right direction . Thanx for sharing .

This kind of thread makes the Gee so unbelievable valuable to me. Informations in detail on subjects, which you will not find in any other place.

I am very thankful for sharing your experience! You not only did a remarkable job on the frame riveting, which always has been a big questionmark to me, you as well invested lots of time to share your experience in providing this high quality thread- in a way which can be understood by everybody.

THANK YOU

Thanks for positive comments guys :) I spent much time in researching this all and I think it would of saved me alot
of time to have access to a thread like this when I stated out. We have already had an offer from a MV dealer in
Europe to buy a complete set of our tools, but we rather just help others in making their own. Johann has now made
version no 4 of the riveting squezzer, this one with an integral spring to retract the piston after squezzing.

Here are websites that will help you in finding the Huck BOM tools and rivets (rental and buy) and the steel rivets and tools:

Patrick,

As requested:

Accufast Inc
7201 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4B8
780-436-7400

You can rent the hydraulic rig and gun from them, but you need to ask them about renting the BOM heads. I think
the normal rental is $100 a day, so I recommend you do the steel rivets first and then do the BOMs in one day.
Maybe you will have better luck with them then I had.

John, thanks for adding your article. Its where I got the idea to build the anvil mounted bucking bar. I think
it would be a good idea to add videos and photos that show the traditional way to do this, for those that
dont have the means to make a rivet squzzer like we made.

If you want to buy your own Huck BOM riveting gun, then these are the partnumbers
you need to look for (google / Ebay) I will update with more numbers when
we find more tools that can do this job. Input welcome.

HUCK part numbers:
Airdriven gun, model = 256 (update Aug 2011: I beleive the older model of this one was the model 226)
Airdirven gun, model = 4800-10000 (this is the one I have, uses head part number 4800)
Hydraulic gun, model= 2580 (reqires hydraulic rig)
All of these use the same head pullers:
3/8 = 99-1272
5/16 = 99-769

Gage Bilt part numbers:
Airdriven gun, model = GBP4801BA (not sure if hydraulic rig is required) costs $1866 from Gage Bilt
Heads:
3/8 = BOM12-756-26. Costs $522
5/16 = BOM10-756-26. Costs $522

Would love to see more details about the rivet squeezing tool... It sure looks like you end up with a much better job than I could do with a bucking bar and rivet gun. My fear of doing my own rivets is that I would end up with a rivet that looked good but didn't actually hold any better than a loose 1/4 inch bolt.

How is the ram attached to the C clamp part of the tool? I see welding, but I doubt it is to the actual hydraulic ram body, unless it was taken apart for welding??

Very nice video...and I agree a sticky post is in order.

We are working on getting clear photos, perhaps even drawings of the C clamp sqezzer tool to
show you how to make one. Johann first made a prototype out of wood. The 1st metal version
was 30mm thick, but that one bent, so he made another one from 4 each 10mm plates welded
together. That one is strong enough. He then welded on a cylinder tube to hold the 10 ton jack.

The jack is actually loose inside the cylinder, but secured with a nut on top and held in place on
the side with a hex nut. He will take photos tomorrow, and we will try to explain how to do make
this tool in detail.

Regards
