Hi Chuck,Tom,
Now come on Chuck !!!
I think I`ve claimed enough Luck for quite a while to find my hood number as it is, never mind stretching it to buy a Lottery ticket
as well.
An Tom,
I was about to whisper in your ear about the GPW as I mentioned in my post, but did I not whisper just a few days ago about
something else ??????
Like Chuck an the luck I had, for me that is a very rare occasion.
As I know it`s going to take more than just luck to find a generator it also needs too !!!!!
And you have to admit there is that certain satisfaction of when something like finding the hood number out of the blue as I did happens.
It`s just like the Willys an Ford jeep legacy full of surprises !!!!

Re: HOW TO RECOVER HOODNUMBERS W/ PAINT STRIPPER, SCRAPER, H
Hey guys, so I attempted to recover the numbers off my 42 USMC MB on the hood and one of the rear bumperettes. So far I have not seen any trace of a nunber. Before I go at the other side of the hood I want to be sure I am doing this correctly since I only got one shot at this
Using mild stripper and a scraper i got through a few layers of paint down to the original forest green. Any tips are appreciated. Hopefully the numbers havent been removed.

Ok,
I have almost finished the rest of my M4A1 mortar carrier and used repro rear bumpers in the hopes that I could later recover the unit ID mrkgs. Not being to sure of myself and having only one chance. Which one of you that has perfected a process would be willing to receive these bumpers do your CSI stuff and ship them back with results???? I would gladly pay the fee for such service.
Thanks

I am restoring 1944? land lease Willys MB in the Republic of Georgia. Is it worth to try to find hood numbers by methods described in this tread? It is lend- lease car and I am not sure if they had all US markings as well?

How to Find out where your Jeep Went.
Hey all, I have a 1942 Script GPW matching numbers.
They are 3878"I" which I assume is a number one.
The hood numbers were od blue which read "U-S-A 20126713-S" Not sure about the letter S and the last three may be a number 9. The hood number matches the rear panel as well. On the rear panel in white letter I could somewhat make out two letters, either "AN" or "AB" which I'm not sure what that could be, I figured maybe someone named the Jeep.
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated

Hi
I thought that if you can cut metal with abrasive and water under high pressure should it not possible to remove paint with water under high pressure? So I took the bumper to a friend and tried whit a really good result. His hobby is pre hydraulic earth moving machines and all that he has is a little bit bigger or better ore more power ful than what you normally find in a hobby garage. He has a high-pressure waterwash with a diesel powered heater, I tried it first with just high pressure. It took away everything that was loose and then some more. Then I tried with little heat, much better results. Then the horns grew and I turned up the heat on max. Then I could slowly peel the paint layer by layer down to the green and the markings. It was fascinating to see how hard the various paint layers sat, some were released immediately others had a good grip to their surface. What I really liked was that it was a slow and controlled process. Combining this method with fine sanding or scale with a sharp blade on what you want to remove, then I think you have an outstanding result.
