Can manufactures list

Post by bombtech » Mon Mar 31, 2008 5:48 pm

As many of you know, and have contributed to, I have been building a data base of can information. I was about to post it last fall when word of the "Le Jerrican" book was being published. Since I am not a can expert and not wanting to put out erroneous information I was going to wait for a few months until the book was out. The other issue was trying to correlate some 500 plus photos to the data base. The photo problem has many facets yet to be solved. The data base has about 150 line entries and not all are complete and a few are known points of forum discussion. So the question remains what to do? Go forth with what I have thus far or wait a while longer for more learned source documentation and post only what may not be covered in the book.
Cheers,

I am of the belief to post it with your known discussions and lets all help figure it out. I am a firm believer of using a forum like this to grow the knowledge.

Post by Fred Coldwell » Mon Jan 05, 2009 4:48 am

Hi Luca:

Why has the list of U.S. Gas Jerry Can manufacturers been removed? I thought this was an information SHARING web site? Please explain. Thanks.

I think we ought to take off with the list Dan provided and add to it when we can.

I can add what I am told is a Magnatex (The Circle M marking) I have photos of a 42 dated can. I think they came from there on the Gee or on Ebay.
I can add Radio Steel as a manufacturer as well but it is a 51 date and not in the 41-45 vintage.

Great , the "phantom List" is back!I see at least three brands listed of cans I have. Now can someone chime in as to what cans are rare and which are not so rare? Any help is appreciated.

Does anyone know where the companies were located? I'd like to know if any of them were in Michigan. I am always looking for items to add to the museum collection.
