'42 NESCO galvanized can with Diesel markings

Post by AZ Jeff » Sun Feb 05, 2017 12:03 pm

Picked this up this morning. Even in the 06:00 AM low light I could tell she was galvanized but daylight revealed even better news...

* "D" stenciled in black on each side along with a blue-grey stripe under the seam. I'm guessing that's a Diesel designation.

* Four, straight ear cap with permanent gasket and chain link.

* Note the offset "2" in the "42" date. Screams 41-42 transitional to me.

Just scrubbed it with GO-JO to remove a few decades of dirt. The heavy galvinizing preserved it very nicely.

As an aside, what sort of allied equipment used diesel in WW2?....or would this have been marked as D much later in its life?

I've read that some WW2 non-tactical, construction equipment used diesel engines (ex: road graders).
