Here's my TEX can. It has the R on the bottom as well. Also under the octane tag is what I believe to be a Westinghouse logo.

Wow...I missed that other thread....so the Magnatex mystery seems to have been sorted out and the BENNETT style can reinforcement seems to be seen on that Magnatex example. Over here we do see a lot of the regular British cans but I have never seen a Magnatex one around here. Being on the West Coast means a lot of what has been shipped back to the US like M201 stuff and British gear isn't as prevalent as it is on the East Coast from what I have seen.

So it looks like the blanks for Magnatex were made by more than 1 manufacturer and more than 1 size of "TEX".

I picked up a US can yesterday , it was marked with an R where the Octane Tag should be and an Underlined W in a circle which we think is Westinghouse Logo. The can does not have the reinforced base. It was an average price so we haggled a bit and i brought it home. On inspection with the aid of some emery paper i found the TEX marking

So this can has reversed markings to the other cans found. We can say for sure (i think !) that we have 2 manufacturers making making handles and bottoms. Westinghouse has no reinforcing indent and the R manufacturer has. So as more people look we could find double underlined W's and Double R's on cans with or without reinforced bases.
I wonder if the top itself has an Identifying mark showing who made it.

When you analyze carefully the kits unpacking sequence in the Magnatex film, you can clearly see that, as expected, the bottom closures of the Jerry cans sent by the US are already marked. Yves

The jerry cans in the Magnatex Ltd film are marked 43 as your jerry can.
We can clearly view the marking when the woman inspects the inside of the can !
Q.M.C., USA and 5 1/4 43 in one image. I've carefully checked the end of the process images, before painting, and I cannot observe any TEX marking on the handles .

I cannot see the TEX stamping process either but I think it may be stamped when the Cut for the Octane tag is stamped out. It would make sense as it is the only fabrication work to the handle other than the spot welding.
