SANDRIK SS gerrycan value info

Post by Skyrookie » Sat Sep 27, 2014 8:42 am

Hello All,

A friend of mine has found following gerrycan in a barn from his father and gave it to me,because he knows i am in to this WWII stuuf and i do some jobs for him.

I do not know much about gerrycans, but from what i have found on the internet, it should be a real one.

It also has the so called 3 tone paint on it (not so good vissible on the photos), is this added on later in the war ?

It has some dents but she doesn't leak :-)

what should be the value of this ?

Did you ever get an idea of the value?

Very rare. The paint work should push it up to a high price.

BUT - you pop that on ebay and it'll get pulled immediately

Good luck

DO NOT do anything to the paint or the internals or anything whatsoever!

If you place a piece of cardboard just big enough to cover the "SS" runes and take photos of it that way and do not mention the Schutzstaffel in the ad, Ebay will not bother with it. List it as "WWII German Jerry Can from ELITE DIVISONS" and that won't trigger a cancellation either.

Take a GOOD photo of it with the lid CLOSED...discriminating collectors wanting to avoid post-war cans made by SANDRIK will want to see where the HOLE in the lift tab is located, if there is a stamping of a "flower" visible, if there is a STRAP that holds the burp tube to the inside of the throat and if the inside has a red finish to it.

They are often found (originals anyway) for over $200.00 dollars easily....so if you put it on Ebay for a couple weeks the word will get out and since yours is in very GOOD or better condition....it will get top dollar...be sure to provide pics of all four sides, both ends, the bottom and several of the top and the cam-closing as well as the handles....if you can get a pic of the INSIDE even better!
