Thanks Reg. I now need to make a decision about where to plant it. The one photo shows the English or aussies did not hesitate to get rid of items not needed such as the grill wonder where the pieces went???? old arkie

Another photo of holder (made from round stock) on a Marine Corps jeep.

If you use a standard jerrycan holder you will need to space it away from the body to clear the windshield pivot point.
I'm sure most of the jerry-rigged holders shown allow the can to contact the pivot point, but I doubt these guys were worried about the long term effects of the can rubbing on it.
I think the halftracks used a stand-off plate between the holder and the vehicle body, but I don't know if it would be thick enough, or of the availability of them.

rills only cut for desert jeeps

Most cans mounted on step just by piece of bended shaped bar welded to jeep, and can dropped in, jerrican rack there looks artificial

I'd guess that the jeeps in Europe with cut grilles were just brought over from North Africa and not cut in Europe. I am just guessing, of course.
Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?

Did most of those side mount gas can holders have that "stand off bracket"? If so where can you source one?
