Need help on this can

Postby wrdabney » Wed May 30, 2012 12:23 pm

Can you guys give me some info on this can? I don't know much about it. What would it be worth if I were to sell it. Thanks.

Appears to be a Korean War-era standard issue GI gasoline (or other fuel) can. Made by Russakov in 1952.

Marked US and not USA. This fact implies a more restricted range of possible purchasers.

As for its value, this thread might offer you an idea:

Luca,
For that price I'll probably hang on to it. It is pretty cool and in decent shape. Do most people want the USA stamped ones as opposed to the US stamped ones?

"USA" marked cans are WWII-era.

The USA marking continued about until 1951/52, then changed to US.

A can with USA, even if post war dated, can look the part, if not turned upside down, even displayed on a WWII jeep.

A can with US marking on a WWII jeep sticks out like the classic sore thumb, and is only good for display on a postwar jeep.

I gave you the link thinking it could be useful and that you might have missed it.

Robin has a good experience in selling this kind of artifacts, so I think his prices are a good indicator, but you obviously are the only one who can decide. .

It would depend on what ERA you're depicting with that "WWII" jeep. The Willys MB and Ford GPW continued in U.S. service for a long time post-WWII, and a post war can would be appropriate.

Yes,that is why I said post war jeep.Maybe I should have been more clear and say " any jeep in post war years after 1952"...

The main concept is that a 1952 can with US marking has a more limited range of possible customers than any postwar one marked USA.
My opinion, of course.
