Some of the US jerry cans from WWII are found painted in the same Semi-Gloss OD that the .30 or .50 ammo cans are painted. Before you altar what might be an original paint job...can you post a pic?

Chuck: as a former prune picker from the north part of Calif. I appreciate your answer BUT as I was born a number of years before the ww2 I have yet found a way to post photos so I usually send them via email. I can take a photo with a digital camera but unless there is some easy way to post it on the board I will ask your permission to email one to you and perhaps you will be so kind to post it for me???? I know that sometime back there was quite a bit contraversy about cans so I hope this does not start that again
May I email you the photo??? old arkie

controversies and jerrycan paint.

Postby lucakiki » Sat Aug 27, 2011 8:42 am

Controversies are all over on this site, and I have often been active part in them.
However, unless I missed it, I do not recall any disagreement and controversy on the color that regular jerrycans came in.
Would we once again be speaking of mistery cans, that would be a different story. :)

As Chuck pointed out, this would probably the most correct color to paint them.

Roy, that is very true, and I agree completely.
Some guys just repaint their cans with the very same paint that they are using for their jeep, and the outcome is not exactly praiseworthy.
As an expedient, if one is not willing to use the proper semigloss paint matching the ammo cans, he could at least smear the matt painted surface of the can with clean grease or baby oil and polish with a rag.
It gives a decent representation of semigloss, and avoids at least the dreaded "dipped in the same pot" look.

Chuck
Who made the cans in the 3 pictures you just posted?
What does the G stand for Gas? or the manufacturer?

Thanks

Those are pics of Old Arkie's can...the mfg info would be on the bottom of that can....and the "G" is for gasoline.
