You should try some "Evaporust", it absorbs rust or any iron oxides by selective chelation, I like to call it "Magic Water". I use it all the time on rusty stuff, if you use this stuff I would wash it afterward, clean it out with a potable cleaner like Comet or Ajax, then seal it with a food grade sealer I would bet it could be Potable.

I have tried it yet, but I have two Water cans I am planning to try it on...I just didn't know of a food grade sealer untill I just learned about the Camcote.
