PRC-6 Dataplate source?

Post by avlon01 » Wed Mar 15, 2006 12:32 pm

I am looking for the silver data-plates that are attached to the PRC-6 handheld radios.

Repo or a decent take-off are OK. Mine have the Israeli plates with Hebrew.

PRC 6 plates

Post by Radtech » Wed Mar 15, 2006 4:01 pm

The auctions are for a pair of plates not single plates. And they are very good.He has 2 types, the riveted or screw type(you must drill out the holes) and the type with no screw holes adhesive mounted.I made a jig from an old plate to drill the holes properly.

Israeli PRC 6

Post by Radtech » Wed Mar 15, 2006 4:20 pm

Are yours the Israeli made or US made?If the wireing is bright colors and the capacitors and resistors are not the WWII type then it was made in Israel from NOS parts purchased from the original US Govt.contractors.They were made in the late 60's and early 70's so the resistors and capacitors are the same as currently used in electronics. When they were first imported from Israel I bought almost all the new condition units they had and they all worked perfectly.I have had several of the US surplus units from Israel also with Hebrew plates brought to me with major problems.Someone just imported a batch of US surplus PRC 6 units from Greece and all the ones I have seen are junk.

I don't know what WW2 type capacitors and resistors look like, nor can I tell if the wiring is colorful (I'm totally color blind). They each have a vaccuum tube in them and there are large square blocks forming the "top" of the electronics.

I assume they are Israeli made, or were taken care of by the Israelis. The insides are clean and there is not a trace of dirt to be found. The outsides are OK, but there is a thick gloopy paint all over them. I stripped the paint off one and repainted it. It looks new!

There is a metal foil radio freq. guide sticker on the inside of each unit, and there is a sticker for Modifications (which is blank).

Either way, with a new data plate they will look darn good.

Phil

EDIT: I thought when I asked this question I was never going to find a dataplate set. I underestimated the power of the "Gee"!
