I found some on Epay that were NOS and still had a good charge. I got one to build into a rechargeable battery for my 77's and was pleasantly surprised to find out it still had a good charge. Search on BA 4386, seller is 7403squirrel.

Just gut a dead magnesium battery and insert two six volt lead acid batteries in it's place. Since you have a '77 you don't need the filament voltage that's required with the '25. Transmit power on 12 volts might be a little down compared to 15 volts but it should work well in any case. You can find the 6 volt lead acids at Home Depot where they keep the emergency lighting stuff.

Snok,
Even though PRC77 is a robust unit I prefer to not have low voltage; When you click (PTT) the in-rush current is higher than normal (12v /15v) and the weak spots on the circuit could get stressed - you can lose something (trace on the circuit) or component in the module. It is only 20% more but with in-rush current it could translate to 50% more amps across those paths.

I also warn people when they use 1.2V NICADs instead of 1.55v batteries; you need 10 of them to reach 12v; I prefer to go over voltage (a little, like 5%), than 20% under. Just my $0.02.

You need at least 14 volts to operate a PRC77 properly. The equal to 10 D cells.

Greg, This has been on my to do list for a while now. I have a design for lithium ion battery packs for the 77s that I will try to have ready for Petaluma. They won't be cheap as they will use modern components but they will be easily (and quickly) rechargeable batteries.
