BC-1000 internal parts sources??

Post by retro-roco » Wed Jan 17, 2018 7:14 am

Hi everyone,

If you look closely at this photo of the internals of my BC-1000; you'll see that many of the tubes and tube covers are missing. I can source the tubes that are required (I think) but am stumped by the tube shields. Is that even the correct term? Any suggestions on sources for those?

They are tube shields. The tube shields are not critical for operation as they are there so the tubes do not loosen up in combat. You need all the tubes plus the two tuning crystals which are next to impossible to find. The tubes were more than likely removed because there is a problem with the unit. From the dents in the tuning unit covers the chassis has been banged around a bit.Fair Radio Sales has the tube shields for about 75 cents each they are listed as 6BA6 tube shields.

Ok thanks. Im still assessing the condition and cost of repairs. Will likely end up a cosmetic restoration for reenacting. Appreciate the shield type and source. You also explain why I was unable to find the crystals! :(

The calibration crystals are not critical for operation as there are cheap electronic frequency counters to calibrate these sets.

Calling all radionerds (no disrepect intended!). Do you have any pointers on removing the faceplate from the chassis of my BC-1000. The fillester head screws, volume control, and weather proof jacks seem pretty straight forward. Not a clue when it somes to the tuning knob and other controls. How about removing the antenna insulator?

Also looking for a replacement coil for L-3. I knew mine was damaged, but had no idea how badly. Replacement is the only option..

You need to remove the tuning dial from the tuner and make sure the tuner does not move after removal or you won't be able to ailgn the tuner dial when you replace it.There is a flex coupling between the dial and tuner.I will look and see if I still have an L3 tuning coil.
