SCR506 for Halftrack??
I am looking for a SCR506 for my halftrack. Are they out there and what would the average price be for one?
TM 11-2718 shows it mounted behind the driver but also it looks like another radio box at the rear of the halftrack, is this part of the SCR506?
Stenciling on the body shows SCR 506 - 510 mounted and RC 58. I believe the 510 is mounted on the passenger side.
Thanks Gary

Re: SCR506 for Halftrack??
No. TM 11-2718 shows the SCR-506 mounted in the rear of the 'track. The radio behind the driver is SCR-508/528/608. You can ID each on the basis that only the big FM sets connect to the BC-606 remote mounted in front of the passenger. The FT-237 mount has a single coaxial battery cord whereas the FT-253 has two single conductor ones. And in the top view drawing, although the text calls for MP-65 antenna mast base, the top view drawing shows the larger insulator on the MP-37. Which could also be used.
Where radios go in vehicles often depends upon what other radios were present. For example, when the SCR-506 wasn't installed but the SCR-508/528/608 was, it went in the rear. If you aren't putting an SCR-508/528/608 in the vehicle, you could probably put the SCR-506 on the short FT-284 behind the driver. But you would have to mount the LS-3 and bracket as shown for the SCR-193, assuming that it would fit (I haven't checked that).
If an SCR-510/610 is mounted in the vehicle, the radio goes behind the passenger and the power supply behind that. If an RC-58 is installed, it goes forward and inboard of the SCR-510/610. Both of these are regardless of what else is installed.

Re: SCR506 for Halftrack??
Robert,
Thanks for the information. I would like to put the radios back in that are stenciled on the ammo door. I am also looking at the holes in various places to help figure out the mounting places. There are two junction boxes mounted in the floor storage compartment and a rectangular hole cut in the floor behind the driver. I can see where the antenna bases were mounted to the perimeter rail.

Gary,
OK. Between TM 11-2718, the holes already drilled, knockout holes open in the junction boxes, and what's stenciled on the door, you should be able to figure out what was previously in the M2A1.

Re: SCR506 for Halftrack??
I know your post is old, but just in case.
I have complete SCR-508's, as well as components.
I repair and restore these radios.
So if you need one I can deliver one to you fully functional or just for display.
Mike

Mike, what would a display radio cost with mounting base?
