SCR-187 set for the T-36 - BC-309 & DM-24 still needed

Post by Gordon_M » Wed Aug 26, 2015 12:58 am

Morning all, I'm ( still ) putting together an SCR-187 set for my T-36 Snow Tractor. I've got most of it but parts missing as always.

So, parts and assemblies I'm looking for; ( edited to remove a couple of items Alberto and Tony helped with - thank both )

BC-309 Control Box
DM-24 Dynamotor

Bumped politely, still looking for these two items

But, are you sure about the SCR-187 in vehicular configuration?
For my knowledge (I'm not sure 100%) this radio set is installed only in the airplanes.

Indeed Alberto, I'm going by this extract from Fred Crismon's excellent US MILITARY TRACKED VEHICLES

Image

There is a radio mounting base to the left of the driver that is the right size to take the BC-224, but I don't know if the BC-191 and BC-224 were stacked together, or on separate brackets.

Ok. Now is a little better clear but not enough...!
For sure the the BC 191 and 224 are mounted on separate brackets.
In effect, as usual, in vehicular configurations all the radio components are installed with anti-vibrations mountings: FT-151 for BC 191 and FT 162 for the BC 224 (with the same external dimensions like BC 312), not stacked together.
It seems that your mounting base isn't complete or some components are missing.
I will investigate in my TMs but an help from some radio expert would be appreciated 8)

Thanks Alberto

I've just discovered today that I need the FT-151 for the BC-191, but my pre-war manual says the FT-154 is the mounting for the BC-224. I hadn't heard of the FT-162 till you mentioned it.

So my new list of wants would be;

BC-309 Radio Control Box
BC-191 top and back panels - maybe with your help on the top panel
BC-224 main cover panel
FT-151 Mounting for the BC-191
FT-154 OR FT-162 Mounting for the BC-224

Yes the FT-154 is the correct model.

For the BC 191 you will need also, for sure, a mounting snubber FT-172 and, maybe, a FT-178 for the other radio cabinet (to be confirmed)
The difference between the two mountings regards only the length of the rod (n° 3 in the drawing)

Hi Gordon
BC-191 and BC-224 working to 12V
The first type BC-224 A-B-C not cover the long wave and used in ground service to.
Normally BC-191 use BC-312 as receiver.
I have listed on ebay the mounting for BC-191 item 121748559376

Thanks Tony.

I know about the listing - see the one bid that is already on there? I bid on the Dynamotor Mount you have up there too.
You listed it as an FT151 though, without the - the Signal Corps used in the designation as FT-151

I discovered today that the case for the BC-348 will also fit the BC-224, so I have bid on one of those too so that I can use the case. Now all I need to find is the FT-154 Mounting, if you find one of those I'll be bidding for that too.

thanks again
