Good point about not needing the box if the mount is going to be cut to fit in a jeep. Put me down in the poll for one of the purpose built versions please.
This thread notes that TM 11-2715 shows how to mount in a jeep. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=157080
I haven't seen the TM but assume it indicates where to cut and how to mount.
I did a quick google to find a free copy and didn't find it but they are for sale here: http://www.armyradio.com/arsc/customer/ ... 1-2715.htm

Thanks very much for tackling this challenge!

Actually, the part that describes the FM-41 mods and jeep installation is free. Just go to http://www.armyradio.com/arsc/customer/ ... 1-2715.htm and click on the Assembly and Installation link under Section IV, SCR-284.

This is what I used to locate the fender holes for my FM-41 (which had already been cut for a jeep) as well as the cable routings.

Antonio, I sent a PM on July 7th, but I'm not sure it went through (operator error???). I'd like to hear about your shock mounts that you have available. Send me a PM or directly to Industele@aol.com. A photo of the part would be appreciated. I need several right now. Thanks, Tom Campbell

Just to keep this going, I am still working on the storage box door and box parts to find an easy way to make the thing cost effective. I will get with Tom when I have an answer and cost. Looks as if most all other parts are OK.

Tom, I would like to get on your list as well. I have made do with the one I built a while back, but would like something that is correct. I built mine using the manual and pictures and no dimensions, so don't laugh too hard at my feeble attempt shown below.

Steve, I couldn't see the images. Might be my 5 year old computer. Try again, or send directly to Industele@aol.com I'd love to see your work. Working from an actual pattern is hard enough, I'd hate to try using photos and sketches from the manuals. These things are very difficult to build (at least until I figure out the shortcut). Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, has to be fitted together, squared up and then welded or riveted. Very little can be assembled as sub pieces then added together. Still battling the little box, the D ring clips and the latches. I'm narrowing in on the D ring clip, and the latch.

Tom,
evidently my picture gallery is defunct. I am trying to upload the pictures of my home made FM-41 again. I have added the rubber bumpers for the Dynomotor frame since these photos were taken.

Steve, you've done an excellent job, especially with nothing to go by but some photos. What did you do for the hold down clamps. The one I saw in a photo looked almost exactly like the originals, and that's one of the parts I'm having trouble with. Did you make "D" ring holders? That's the other part I'm having trouble with. Good Job. NO, make that a GREAT job.

I need to find a source of WWII Signal Corp green paint in gallon cans. Tom

Tom, thanks for the kind words of encouragement. For the hold down clamps, I used the latches from old WWII wooden ordnance crates. I did not make the "d" rings as I built it in two halves and figured the "cut down Jeep version" did not require them.

In an effort to help Tom in fabricating the complete FM-41, I sent him the cost to build the storage box. Because of the design, they would not be cheap and I will leave it up to him if he wants to supply the mount with or without the box. Also, the box was not used on the Jeep installations so the numbers were reduced which increased the cost.

Thanks Tom for the information and look forward to the finished product.

If mentioned in the foregoing posts, I have not noticed it. Has anybody, or can somebody, obtain a copy of the original Signal Corps contract{s} to learn details of construction and of the number of originals produced? The data tag on one of the existing originals would be a starting point. backsink
