odd FT237 mount ??

Postby brian in denver » Sat May 19, 2012 8:00 am

we found an odd stencil on a (SCR-508) FT237 mount -
WIRED ACCORDING TO SCH-9168
anybody got any idea what this referes to or or why, we noticed the usual schematic was missing off the pad.

No idea. It did not appear within the first 10 pages of a Google search and it is not the FT-237 modification used when the SCR-508 is mounted in a late WW II Navy waterproof radio cabinet. That FT-237 modification is per drawing RE 10F 496. Sorry I couldn't help you.

the reason we ask is. we had to change out the mount in the stuart, becouse it was a "modern G Model" with the goofy screw on antenna conector as opposed to the plain binding post.

when we tried it the intercom was all screwed up, the second you turned on the reciever the dyno would spin up. like a mike was keyed. went through the buss bar one by one finally got it to shut off disconecting number 10.

then went ahead and tried to finish checking out the rest. the intercom system seemed to work on transmit/radio, but when you fliped the switch to intercom, the dynos spun up again.

we came to the conclusion somthing in the mount must be wired up side down and backwards.
we have another mount that seems more origanal (I think its a D model) well try swaping next friday.

Brian:

Do you need an unmodified FT-237 to try out? If so, I can look at mine and see if I have an unmodified one you can try out. I also left a cell phone message for Russ this morning with the same offer of help. Email, PM or call me if I can help you.

All of the FT237 mounts were wired the same.In some instillations the control boxes were wired in differently. The sch 9168 is the schematic number in one of the instillation manuals .Many are marked with the instillation TM schematic number and lot of these mounts are missing the standard wireing diagram of the mount itself. If you bench test the mount before instillation and it works correctly, you have a problem in your instillation wireing.

defenatly somthing hinky with the mount, poked it to death, and couldent find anything wrong, but when we swaped it out for another one, everything worked fine.
took the command car and the tank to casper, and tried them there.
the tank would only put out weak and intermittantly,
but whoever the missippi mush mouth gator jaws is on channel 27 came through loud and clear on the recievers.
